Stella Sung
Stella Sung, Ph.D. has extensive experience as both a venture capital (lead) investor and a C-level executive at innovative, science-based companies. She is currently involved in both these roles and is working with several companies. As a venture capitalist, Dr. Sung serves as Managing Director at Pearl Street Venture Fund. Dr. Sung’s previous venture capital and private equity experience includes leading investments as a General Partner at Oxford Bioscience Partners, where she led six early-stage financings, served on six Board of Directors, and was Chairman of the Board of four venture-backed life science companies. Dr. Sung has also been Managing Director at Coastview Capital, a life science venture firm founded by Gordon Binder, Amgen’s longtime CEO. -Dr. Sung began her venture capital/private equity career at Advent International, a global firm with funds across different sectors, stages, and geographies. On the operating side, Dr. Sung is currently part-time Chief Business Officer of two different companies: Decoy Biosystems (www.decoybio.com), a cancer immunotherapy company with a patented multi-Toll-Like Receptor (TLR) agonist; and AEGEA Biotechnologies (www.aegeabiotech.com), a next-generation nucleic acid technology company that is developing and commercializing new molecular diagnostic tests and kits for COVID-19 as well as for rare mutation detection in oncology. Dr. Sung was previously Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer at ImmunoActiva, a cancer immunotherapy start-up. Past positions include President & CEO of PliCare Therapeutics and Chief Business Officer of Cylene Pharmaceuticals, a small molecule oncology company. In her different positions as an operating executive, Dr. Sung has been responsible for all aspects of business development, finance, and accounting, in/out-licensing strategies, and HR. Dr. Sung earned her Ph.D. in theoretical chemistry from Harvard University. Her thesis advisor was Dudley Herschbach, 1986 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry. She was a National Science Foundation pre-doctorate fellow and a NATO postdoctoral fellow.
